Welcome in Utrecht. The city, so called 'Best kept secret' regarding Lonely Planet's article. This popular en trendy city, with canals like in Amsterdam is only 45 minutes' drive from all other big cities in central Netherlands.

Utrecht is the fastest growing city in the Netherlands. Because of its central location and popularity, especially for students that went to one of the Universities that decides to stay after their study. Utrecht is well-known of its shopping facilities, bars and restaurants.

Hoog Catharijne shopping Centre is directly connected to the central station, and if you walk through it, you will step into one of Netherlands oldest cities. Ringed by the 13-th century wharves, below street level, you have impressive historical surrounding filled with old buildings, nice bars en terraces in the summer time.

In summer, Utrecht is Festival City, hosting various jazz events (you'll see musicians on every corner) and the Netherlands Film Festival in September. Added to that, the city's student community of 40.000 is the largest in the country, making it one very infectious place.
